Texting ETC.

We had an unexpected visit from a relative from another province a couple weeks ago. In the midst of our conversation he was texting his daughter who had stayed at home...
His attention was not on our visit;
And there were gaps in the conversation while he finished
what he was doing.

Just the other day I was listening to the radio
and heard an interview with a linguist and a teacher
regarding the prevalence of texting in our world today!
They say that it has not affected the English language –
but I wonder about that!
Also, they say that it hasn’t affected communication –
again, I wonder about that!

I began to think about the “language” involved in texting and went on-line; it was amazing what I found!
Pages of abbreviations, acronyms and emoticons to help one express themselves!

So – what is texting?
It is a shorthand form of communication.
I read that there are more than 1 billion text messages exchanged in North America daily.

I’ve used some of the more common ones for years as
I’m sure you have:
KISS – Keep It Short and Simple
TMI – Too Much Information
ASAP – As Soon As Possible
LOL – Laugh Out Loud
VIP – Very Important Person
?4U – Question For You

As a kid I used to sign notes SWAK – Sealed With a Kiss;
And we would say – MYOB – Mind Your Own Business.

And I would guess that we’ve all used this one!
XOXOXO – Hugs and Kisses.

Here’s a few more I’ve just learned:
TIAD – Tomorrow Is Another Day
DH – Dear Husband
DD – Dear Daughter
DS – Dear Son
YSIC – Your Sister In Christ

Here are some emoticons:
;) = Wink
:) = Happy Face
:( = Sad face
<3 = Sideways Heart
In order to communicate in this manner you need to know the “language”.

As I was reflecting on the visit we had; listening to this interview; and researching the whole phenomena, my spirit was quickened to give thanks to God that His Holy Word
does not need us to learn a whole new language
to understand it!

Praise God!

“Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will
remain forever.”
Matthew 24:35 (NLT)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.
John 1:1-2 (NKJV)

Every word of God is pure. (NKJV)
Every word of God proves true. (NLT)
Proverbs 30:5

His Word is unchanging ...
has been in existence before time began ...
it is powerful and true!

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”
Psalm 119:105

It shines the way for us to take – the path of righteousness.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Ephesians 6:17 (NKJV)

His Word is part of our armor – to help us in the spiritual battle with Satan.

?4u

Do you stand on His Word daily to help you through?
Do you “armor up” with all the armor – including His Word?
Have you hidden it in your heart? Do you meditate on it?
Does it fill your mind so that Satan can’t fill your mind
with his lies?
Is it the light that shines the way for every step you take?
Every decision / choice you make?

Dearest friends,
I pray that God’s Word has penetrated your heart and filled your mind in such a way that you can rest in, and on,
its truths for your life!
Fill your mind early today with His Word
use it to guide you as you enter the world to do whatever it is you will do today! to be whoever you will be today!
I pray His blessing to be upon you.

“The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you,
And be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you,
And give you peace.”
Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJV)

What’s In A Name?

Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine”
Isaiah 43:1

Wow! Has He summoned you by name – is He calling to you?

We all have many names –
our given name; a nickname; our children call us mom or dad;
nieces and nephews call us auntie or uncle;
grandchildren call us Grammie or Grampie (or some form of this) –
my dad was Bampie to my daughter –
and the list goes on......

Just the other day I was reading somewhere about a lady whose first name no one knew except her husband and her children....
she had NEVER used her first name – went by her second name.
e.g. her name was L. Helen ........ and she went by Helen ....
I wonder what the L. stood for?
Well, you can rest assured that God knows her name!

How important is your name to you?
Mine is pretty important to me! Anyone who knows me well knows that
I prefer to be called Ruthie – not Ruth.
My husband has a special nick-name for me and when he calls me by it
I know he’s feeling tender towards me.
Hearing my precious granddaughter say “Grammie” thrills my heart!

God summons us by name -
· John 10:3 tells us that He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out.
· 1 Samuel 3:10 tells us of God calling Samuel by name and
Samuel responding to His call.

Have you heard Him call your name?
You may sense Him using your earthly name; or speaking in your heart and communicating deep within your soul.
Oh, we know when He’s calling us.
Maybe He’s said something like,
“Hey girl! You did a great job! Thanks for doing that for me!”
OR
“Oh, Ruthie, Why do you fret so? Don’t you know I’ll look after that for you?
Give it to me!”

Did you know that when we get to heaven we’ll be given a new name?
Revelation 2:17b – “And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.”
In the days of John – the writer of Revelation – a white stone was given to the victors in the Greek athletic games, or to the gladiators at the Roman games who had won the public’s admiration.

He will give us a VICTORS white stone and on it will be a name that He will give us!
How awesome is that?
How amazing it will be to hear Him speak my name face-to-face!
But for now, I’m quite happy to hear Him call me to be and to do.... for Him!

Have a wonderful day!
Remember, This IS the Day – maybe the day that you hear Him for the first time!
Surrender it all to Him!

He Will Quiet You With His Love

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

The New Living Translation reads this way -
“For the LORD your God has arrived to live among you. He is a mighty savior.
He will rejoice over you with great gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will exult over you by singing a happy song.”

How comforting this verse is in a time of distress;
when I’m feeling like no one loves me; like no one would ever rejoice over me;
when my mind and soul need rest; when I feel most un-delightful!

I read this verse and I think, “He delights in ME? No way!
YES! ME! He will quiet me with His love! He will rescue me and quiet Me!
Thank You, Jesus! He sings over me as a parent sings over a child!
His Word says it!
I believe it!”

This past winter and spring I have been battling depression –
((and some physical ailments))
Depression has been a periodic thing with me over the years
and probably will continue to be ‘til I’m free
and see my Savior face-to-face.

I love God so much and so don’t want to disappoint Him
that I DENIED this was happening to me again.
This went on for a number of months until I reached a place where I was
no good to anyone –
including HIM!
I didn’t want to see anyone – but put on a front - except with my husband,
who bore the brunt of my “attitude” and “moods”.

I felt like crying all the time – and did.
Those who know me would say, “That’s nothing new!”
because I am a “leaker” by nature!
But this was different!

Kevin just continued to love me and “let me be” whatever I was at any given time!
He sure has been “an answer to prayer” in my life!
And as I write this I’m hit with the realization – afresh and anew –
that God continued to love me even in my darkest time!
I KNOW His Word says that He will never leave us nor forsake us...
But I didn’t ‘FEEL’ it!

Hey! It doesn’t matter if I ‘FEEL’ it or not - it IS the TRUTH
and I WILL BELIEVE His Word above all else!

Psalm 56:8
You keep track of all my sorrows.
You have collected all my tears in your bottle.
You have recorded each one in your book. (NLT)

Imagine that – He keeps track of our sorrow and collects our tears;
records them in His book.
Wow! He cares about me (you) that much that He’s interested in every detail!
And in the distress “He quiets me (you) with His love.” (Zephaniah 3:17)

Thank You, Lord for your gentle hand on my life;
for calming my fears; and quieting my heart!

But BEST of all –

Hear what Revelation 21:4 states.....
“And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes;
there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying.
There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away” (NKJV)

He will wipe away the tears..... Oh My! Can you imagine it?
He will wipe away the tears - How awesome is that!
And there will then be no more crying, or pain,
or sorrow, or death!
Hallelujah!

I’m praying for you today, Loved One,
That no matter what your circumstances might be, you find rest and peace in Him,
and in the truth that He will quiet you with His love;
He rejoices over you with singing NOW;
And - someday –
He will wipe away your tears!
“What a day that will be!”

Be encouraged by His Word!
Blessings to you!

Are You A Caterpillar Or A Butterfly?

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the Creator calls a butterfly.”

I read this somewhere a while back - don’t remember who quoted it –
If I did I would certainly give them credit for it!

This spoke volumes to me about how we see things
and how our gracious Father sees things!

Lots of times we’re not on the same page at all.

I firmly believe that Christians MUST begin to see our family,
our friends, the lost, and our circumstances thru HIS eyes –

Do you think maybe we need to ask Him to reveal His visioning to us?
I do!
Often, I ask Him to help me see a particular person or circumstance with His eyes!

2 Corinthians 5:17 –
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold all things have become new.

Are you looking at things as the caterpillar does?
[fill in the blank]

Do you see ______________________ as the end of the world?
The separation from your spouse? Divorce?
The loss of a loved one?
The wayward child? The loss of a job?
Financial despair? Depression? Physical illness?
The abuse you encountered in childhood or in a relationship
with someone you trusted and loved?

You need to KNOW that God sees all these circumstances as a new beginning –
as a way for His glory to shine in your life....
but you need to allow Him to do a work in you!

My story is a personal witness to the saving grace of God in my life...
I have encountered most of those things I mentioned above –
but God got hold of me and He made me a New Creation!
He gave me New Life! In Him!
A New Beginning!

Praise His Holy Name!

He carried me thru the darkest times of my life
(Isaiah 43:1-2; Hebrews 13:5; Lamentations 3:22-24)

He allowed me to rest in the cocoon of His safety and peace
until I ventured forth as a butterfly.

Have you ever seen an “ugly” butterfly?
I haven’t – even the plainest of all are still beautiful!
And that’s the way it is with us ... He gives us a beauty that comes from Him...
not from any outward adornment –
An inward beauty that shines when we allow His love
and changing power to show to the world!

I pray for those reading this today that you will allow Him to do the work
that needs to be done to turn you into a butterfly ...
a New Creation ...
and that no matter what life brings your way
you will rest in the knowledge that He is in control;
that His plan far exceeds our plan.
(Jeremiah 29:11)

May you fly today on the wings of a butterfly!

He Rejoices Over You!

Do you know this to be true?

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.
he will take delight in you, he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NIV)

Rejoice – be cheerful; glad; joyful; make mirth
Joy – glee; gladness; pleasure
Singing – shrill sound; shout; cry of gladness or joy

What was your view of God as a child? As a new Christian?
Did you picture Him taking delight in you? Quieting you with His love?
Singing over you?
I didn`t!

As a child I believed in Him; Knew He resided in heaven;
But knew nothing about having a personal relationship with Him
nor that He desired to have a relationship with me!

When I was saved (20 years ago) I knew He loved me;
Wanted to be in relationship with me;
Would protect me; carry my burdens and me;
But I did not understand the truth of Zephaniah 3:17 until just recently-

I’ll say more about that on another day ...
For now I pray that whoever is reading this will BELIEVE and KNOW
that your Heavenly Father rejoices over you!
Rejoices over you with singing!
Hallelujah!!!!!!!!!!

Do you see God as being joyful?
A couple years ago a friend gave me a framed picture of Jesus with His head
thrown back, laughing!
It is a very special picture and sits in my office so that I see it daily!

Luke 15:7, 10 tell us that there is much rejoicing in heaven when one sinner repents!
I know that God participates in that rejoicing over one who turns to Him!
How thrilled He must be!

He is preparing for those who call Him Father, the “party of all parties” in the
form of the wedding supper of the Lamb ...Revelation 19:7-9

Were you aware that He sings over you?
Think about this... have you sung over your children; your grandchildren;
your nieces and nephews?

I remember singing lullabies to my daughter –
more recently I remember singing over my granddaughter.

Before she was born I wrote a song for her –
to be sung to the tune of “Jesus Loves Me”.
This song tells her how much we – her earthly family - love her;
how precious she is to us;
and how much Jesus loves her!

Her mom and I began singing it to her from the moment of her birth ...
She eventually learned the words and sings with us!
When she needs to feel quieted or loved she will ask us to sing “her song” to her.

The joy and rejoicing in my soul is indescribable!

Just think!
God sings over me with rejoicing!
Over YOU with rejoicing!

May that truth fill your heart and soul today!
And may you believe every truth in His Word!
May knowing that He rejoices over you with singing change how
you see yourself – may you see yourself thru His eye!

Have a wonderful, joy-filled day!
Listen closely – you may hear His still small voice singing over you!

Resting in Him,
Ruthie

Are You “In Season”?

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,
and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law.
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

A few months ago a young man purchased the property next door to us
and eventually proceeded to plant various fruit trees.
In “farmer’s lingo” fruit is generally considered to be a
seed-bearing product of a plant ...
many of which are edible, enjoyable, refreshing, and nourishing.
Fruit are also seasonal.

The Fruit of the Holy Spirit should also be ‘edible’, enjoyable, refreshing, and nourishing.

However it should NEVER be seasonal!

I use the term ‘IT’ because the fruit of the Spirit is not individual “fruits” but one
nine-fold “fruit” that characterizes all who walk in the Spirit.
Therefore, these are the fruit that all Christians should be evidencing in
their lives with Jesus Christ.

Evidence of a transformed life!

I was reading something the other day by Jennifer Abegg:
“When we ask the Holy Spirit to direct our life He begins to form His character within us. This ripens into fruit that He can / will use to change the lives of others.”

WOW!
The fruit of the Spirit in my life and in your life is the visible evidence of
growing in Jesus Christ!
And seeing others changing and growing also!

How “fertile” are you for the work of the Holy Spirit in your life?
Is the soil healthy, nourishing and well-watered?
Maybe there are some weeds that need to be cleared away.

Pull those weeds out and give them to God –
Get into the Word and let Him nourish you –
Let Him fill you up with His Living water –
Be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the fruit will be plentiful.

Praying for you today, I remain

BELIEVE HIM!

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.
2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)

Christians believe the Word of God is true. I once heard a Pastor say that you can’t believe just some of the Word ...If you believe, you must believe it ALL!
Well! That really hit me. How could you not believe ALL!
I’m sure you’re aware, as I am, that there are many people today who pick and choose what they will believe from the Word....

So, if we Believe – Have Faith – Accept the Scripture as being God-breathed – Know it`s His love letter to us - We HAVE to accept what His Word says about us!
Why then do we tell ourselves, and others, that we are not valuable? that we are not unique? that we are not worthy of His grace?

He created us in His image – Genesis 1:26
He calls us His children – John 1:12
He says that our names are written in heaven – Luke 10:20
He tells us that apart from Him we can do nothing – John 15:5
He tells us we are blessed, chosen, adopted, redeemed, and forgiven – Ephesians 1: 3-8

WOW!
I choose today to believe all that about me! I refuse to allow Satan to tell me otherwise!
Satan is the father of lies – John 8:44 –
and he’s just waiting for someone to attack – 1 Peter 5:8

Satan lies to the unbeliever as well as the believer – did you know that?
He tells the unbeliever that she’s OK; she’s not guilty, has nothing to be ashamed of.
He tells the believer that she’s not OK, that she is guilty, and has plenty to be ashamed of, and he tries to make the Christian doubt their worth and value.

Who we are in Christ is absolutely unchangeable – nothing Satan says can change the truth of God’s word and what it says about your worth and value!

Please believe that today!
Be satisfied with God’s acceptance of you!
Let that knowledge fill you with thankfulness, joy and a desire to bring honor and glory to Him for your new life in Him! Praise God!

Have a wonderful, joyous, God-filled, and God-honoring day!

...listen closely to my words;
...keep them within your heart.

Your Word – Gives wisdom -
Help me to hear You when You speak to me.

Your Word – Gives direction -
Help me to follow Your instructions to me.

Your Word – Gives correction -

Thank You, Father – For loving me as You do!
May I be a blessing to You in all I say and do and think!

I give You praise! And I give You thanks!

AROMAS

Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Ephesians 5:1-2

The other day I awoke to the sun streaming in my window, the birds singing, and the fresh smell of a new day after the rain. Don’t you just love the fresh smell in the air after a summer rain? How about the fragrance that comes from the old fashioned (that’s what I call them) roses as they begin to bloom every July? Or freshly made bread baking in the oven?

However, there are aromas that are offensive to us..... garlic breath, body odor, garbage.... to name a few. We are living in a world ... called scent-free ...where we must be aware of the numerous allergies related to scents. Most workplaces and churches are now “scent-free” areas.

This reflection had me thinking of 2 Corinthians 2:14-15 ... But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.

I certainly don’t want to be known for my garlic breath or my BO ... I hope and pray I will be known for the aroma of Christ that I give off.

Can you imagine what sin must smell like to the Father? Like garbage does to us! Unconfessed sin will become a putrid odor to Him. Confess, repent, and clothe yourself daily with Him.

What does this all mean? Well, this aroma won’t be detected by the nose but it will be sensed by those who come in contact with us. I believe it means that we are to radiate the love of Christ to those around us – either by our words, our actions, and/or our non-verbal expressions. And when we give this aroma off to the world it is also a pleasing fragrance to our Heavenly Father.

St Francis of Assisi once said: “Preach the gospel at all times; only if necessary use words.”

How about you?
Have you experienced the fragrance of Christ in your life?
Have you seen the love of Christ in action?
Are YOU the fragrance of Christ to those you meet daily?

We were created to spread His aroma to a hurting world. Some will appreciate it, some will not.
Some will be drawn to it, some will reject it.
Their reaction is beyond our control.
We must do as we’re called to do ... live a life of love!

Have a wonderful, fragrant day in Him!

Resting in HIM,
Ruthie

LIVING WATER!

Today has been an incredibly hot day with temperatures reaching the low 30s C. Needless to say it has been necessary to keep hydrated by drinking lots of cool refreshing water. This has led me to thinking of the hydration of our souls....
In John 4:13-14 Jesus says to the Samaritan woman at the well, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”
I have had an old hymn running thru my head today –
“Fill My Cup, Lord” by Richard Blanshard

The chorus says ...
“Fill my cup Lord, I lift it up, Lord!
Come and quench this thirsting of my soul;
Bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more,
Fill my cup, fill it up and make me whole!

What “things” do you try to fill up on?
Affirmation from others, your husband/children, your career?

Has He filled your cup today? Have you knelt at His feet today?
Have you said to Him, “Here’s my cup Lord, Fill it up – quench this thirsting in my soul and make me full to overflowing with your love and grace

In John 7:37-38 Jesus says “If anyone thirsts,
let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me,
as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

Run to Him right now –
lift your cup high and ask Him to quench your soul today!

God Has A Perfect Knowledge Of Me

I will praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvellous are your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
Psalm 139:14

Today is my birthday – my 59th to be exact!
WOW!
Where did the years go?

What is 59 supposed to feel like? I’m not sure – but I do know I am thankful
to be alive and serving God at this time in my life! I never would have dreamt I’d be who I am today nor doing what I’m doing today ...
I praise my Heavenly Father!

I was saved 20 years ago come September and I am so different today than I was then...
He had a perfect knowledge that I would be! Hallelujah!

His Word tells us that He formed our inner most parts and covered us
when we were in the womb;
that we are fearfully and wonderfully made!
Isn’t that amazing?

We’re also told in this same Psalm (139) that He knows our sitting down
and our rising up;
that He is acquainted with all our ways!
He knows our words, our motives, our desires!

He has a perfect knowledge of me and He wants a relationship with me!
With you!

My prayer today is that you will take this Psalm and study it deeply ...
let the words of the psalmist and the knowledge that God has an intimate knowledge of you penetrate your heart and mind and soul.
Ask Him to search you and to lead you today!

If you don’t know Him and you just happened here, go to the link “Do You know Jesus”.
All you have to do is ask Him into your heart and He will begin a work in you that you would never have imagined; find other Christians to connect with;
begin reading the Bible and talking to Him.

Let today be your Spiritual Birthday .... when you are Born Again!

Do You Know Jesus?

Believe that God loves you – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

Commit your life to Him – We must do more than believe – we must commit ourselves to Him. Jesus said, “I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Understand that sin separates us from God ; and that separation results in death – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)

“For the wages of sin is death, “ (Romans 6:23)

Jesus died for us – “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

Receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior – “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)

Receiving Jesus involves repentance (turning to God) and trusting Christ to come into your life to forgive your sins and to make you the person He wants you to be. You are a new creation! “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” - 2 Peter 3:9

Welcome!

Welcome to ‘This is the Day!'

I’m so glad you stopped by today!
I look forward to reading your comments.

My life has been blessed by a gracious and loving God.
I love Jesus and want to grow more like Him daily.

I desire for women to see themselves thru God’s eyes – to BELIEVE they have worth and value because God says so in His Word!
I want to see women become radical in their walk with Him.

My prayer is that you will be refreshed, inspired, and encouraged thru your visit here;
that you will KNOW how precious you are to our Heavenly father – and that your heart’s desire will be an ever-increasing relationship with Jesus Christ.

Blessings to you all!

Nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.
