Which One Do You Feed?

I was sitting at my computer yesterday morning writing from John 10:7-10 when this email came to me from a friend.
All I could think was, “Oh, if only everyone would realize this!” So – I’m going to share this story with you...

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather:
“Which wolf wins?”
The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

S0 –
Did that impact you as it did me? I hope so!

Which one do you feed?
Have you had times when the evil one seems to be the most hungry of the two
so you feed it till it’s full?
Oh Yah! I have done this!

What about feeding the good wolf?
Is this easy to do all the time?
No! It’s not! But it’s what we’re called to do!

John 10:10
The thief does not come except to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

Jesus is speaking here, telling us that the evil one – the evil wolf – the thief - wants to destroy us. But He has come to give us abundant life!
Praise God!
Hallelujah!

Take a look at what the evil wolf exhibits –
I have experienced all of these feelings and emotions...
What about you?
Do you remember what you did with them?
I do!
At times, I chose to hang out with, and feed, this wolf for a while.
He certainly wasn’t the best companion!
At times I chose to let him go hungry!

Now look at what the good wolf exhibits –
Do you see the fruit of the Spirit here?
Do you see a life filled with God’s presence here?
I hope you do!
I have chosen to hang out with and feed this wolf – Wow! What an experience this is!
The more I hang with him the more like Christ I become!
Whooo Hoooo!

Which wolf is your companion?
Which one do you feed?
It’s a choice we make – everyday!
I pray that you are choosing to feed the good wolf.

I know how hard it is when we feel that someone has hurt us and we’re angry;
or when we feel inadequate; or we’ve believed the lies as to who we are; or we feel guilty for _______________; or jealousy rises up because - she’s prettier than me or smarter than me or has more money than me or has a more loving husband than me...etc., etc.

God is powerful and strong; He is a loving God... He does not want you living with this evil wolf –
He wants you living with Jesus Christ in your heart; with the Holy Spirit living in you.
Then, and only then, will He enable you to “feed the good wolf”.

Dear ones,
Invite Him into your life today...
He will change your heart!
He will change your life!
Make a choice today to believe HIM – to take Him at His Word!
He will make you into an overcomer!
Praise God...
The evil wolf will go hungry – and slither off to find food somewhere else!

Verily, Verily... #3

John 10:7-10 (NIV)
Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep. All who ever came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. I am the gate: whoever enters thru me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life and have it to the full.”

KJV says – “Verily, verily, I say unto you .....

NKJV says – “Most assuredly, I say to you ....

WOW!
These verses are so powerful! I could say so much about our Lord’s words –
but today is “Truth-filled Thursday” and I’ll try to focus on that!

Jesus tells us the TRUTH!
God’s Word is the TRUTH!

Jesus is the only way to Eternal Life with the Father.
Jesus is our Shepherd –

A shepherd would give his life for his sheep;
he would do everything in his power to keep them protected
and safe from robbers, from predators.
When the shepherd had them herded into an enclosure he would lay across the opening to keep the sheep from exiting,
and to keep anyone or anything from entering!
Thus the shepherd became the gate or the door for the sheep!

That’s what Jesus has done, and wants to do, for each one of us!
He is the Way... the Door... the Gate...

Do you believe this truth for your own life?
Dear One, I pray you do!

Father God,
if there is anyone reading this today that does not know You,
send Your Holy Spirit to rest on them and to touch their hearts in such a way
that they see the TRUTH of Your Word!
Thank you Lord for what you are going to do in their lives!
In Jesus name,
Amen.

As I wrote that simple prayer I was reminded of all the SPAM comments I get to these devotionals – just “gobbly-gook”! –
I am not computer literate enough to know how one would do that but
right now – again - I claim this site for the Lord –
These verses have reminded me how satan wants to steal, kill, and destroy –
In the name of Jesus I rebuke you, satan...
Jesus shed His blood so that we might have eternal life with Him ...
I refuse to allow you to have any part of this ministry!
I’ve read the end of the BOOK!
I have overcome!
As has everyone who calls Him their Lord!
Praise God!
Thank you, Jesus!

I also think of the ones who make these spam comments happen ... I’m sure they’re “messing around” everywhere... not just here!
Just imagine the good they could do if they put their energies in a better place!
Lord, You know all about this!
Touch these ones as well, Lord!
Show them Your Truth!

MY REFUGE!

Find rest , O my soul, in God alone;
my hope comes from him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation;
he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.
My salvation and my honor depend on God;
He is my mighty rock, my refuge.
Trust in him at all times, O people;
Pour out your hearts to him,
for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:5-8

REFUGE
shelter from danger, trouble; a place or source of shelter or safety.

What does it mean when the psalmist said that GOD was his refuge?
Is He YOUR refuge?
I pray you can say this with all certainty – He IS your refuge, your rock, your fortress, your salvation –
AND –
that you will not be shaken!
WOW!
What a freedom – what a peace – the confidence in this instils in one!
I pray that this freedom and peace are yours today!

Reading and meditating on the words of this Psalm reminded me of a
reflective piece I had written a few years ago...

THE NEST

The winds howl; snow blows across the field;
trees bend to the strength of the wind;
And yet –
the little bird’s nest remains anchored to the tree!

This little nest sits high up in the tree;
the branch it’s on moves with the force of the wind;
And yet – this nest stays safe and secure!

Oh, how I am reminded of our Heavenly Father –
Of the safety and security He provides for us!
Of His promise to never leave us nor forsake us!

The mother bird builds a nest for her young –
A nest she knows will not be moved by the winds or the storms!
We, too, have this promise from Him who saved us;
Our Father -
The winds and the storms of life will not move us
if we are resting secure in Him!
Hallelujah!

I praise You, Lord, for the safety and security You have brought to my life!
May I always rest in You –
knowing that even though the storms of life will come
and they will howl around me –
I am Yours!
I am Safe!
I am Secure!
I am anchored to You – My Rock and my Refuge!
Praise You, Lord!
Thank You, Jesus!

At the time I wrote this I had just gone thru a divorce;
I feel quite sure I would not have survived emotionally or mentally,
if it had not been for my Refuge!
When this winter storm came and I watched it from my window...I marvelled at the nest I saw high up in the maple tree by my driveway!
It took my breath away, and I could do nothing but Thank God
for His provision for me... and I continue to do that today!

Dear Friends,
Reflect on the words of the psalmist...
If you cannot say with confidence and assurance that He IS your refuge, your rock, your fortress in the storms of life, then get on your knees in prayer – He will become just that for you when you ask Him to!

May your day be filled with Joy and Peace!

What Blesses Your Heart?

Today my heart is so full!
[I am writing this on Saturday morning - Jan. 24th]
Things around me are not always the ‘best’ – Hubby’s business is not doing as well as we’d like these past couple of months...and I have some physical health issues...but I rest in the peace that God is in control; My heart is full for the following reasons:

· I have finally memorized my verse for January –
Zephaniah 3:17...
The Lord is with you, he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing!

Hallelujah!!!!
These words just thrill my soul!

· The Cardinals were at my feeder this morning! For the past few years these birds have been a “sign” to me of God’s greatness... The first time I ever saw one was on a Christmas morning and it was as if God was saying to me, “I love you, girl. Take delight in this magnificent creature of mine!” And I do – the presence of these birds at the feeder remind me of the words in the above scripture!

· We spent last weekend with my daughter, her hubby, and our wonderful granddaughter! She is such a pleasure – such a joy – a gift from God! And my heart explodes when she says to me – out of the blue – “I love you, Grammie.” It brings me to tears to write this! It was so good to have them all here and have some quality time together!

· Today is a good day – I am not in pain as I have been off and on for the past few months...and I'm hoping the sore throat and sniffles disappears over night!

· Hubby is off this weekend – that means we will go to church together tomorrow. He works every other weekend – at those times I miss having him with me in church.
· We’ve been invited to supper with dear friends! I know the super will be wonderful as this gal is an excellent cook; makes great beans and bread! I praise God for all our wonderful friends!

· The days are getting longer – darkness comes later in the day... that means Spring is coming! I think Spring is my favorite season – all the renewal of plants and grass, flowers, - a season of re-birth! Love it!
[I know – we still have a ways to go yet but I can dream, can’t I?]

· I am thankful for the country – and the community - I live in!
Overall – I am just so grateful for my life – for how God has worked in my life – for all the blessings He bestows on me daily!

Reflect on this today:
Do you KNOW that He delights in you, desires to quiet you with His love,
and will rejoice over you with singing!

Just Imagine –
God is singing over you!
Oh my!

What blesses your heart today?
Make a list...
don’t forget to tell Him how much you appreciate those blessings!

Dear Father God,
Your salvation – such a blessing!
May we not take what You did for us for granted.
May we daily be aware of Your hand in our lives.
May we tell you everyday how much we love You.
Even in the tough times may we have grateful hearts.
Thank You Jesus,

P.S. – a side note written on Sunday afternoon – Hubby was called in to work for Sunday due to illness of other staff and I had a cold flare-up overnight!
But Hey!!!
God is good - we’ll have another weekend off together soon;
and this cold will go away in a few days!

Two Things Have I Heard!

Last night a Ladies Group that has been doing
a Beth Moore Bible Study entitled Believing God finished.
This is an amazing study...
The primary scripture for this study is found in Isaiah...

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord,
“and my servant whom I have chosen,
so that you may KNOW and BELIEVE me
and understand that I am He.”
Isaiah 43:10
(emphasis mine)

The ladies present at this last session stated that the truth of this verse has
become very real to them over these past weeks.
Their knowledge, belief, and faith have increased –
they are so thankful for what God has done in them over this time!
I say
“HALLELUJAH!”
God is soooooooo good!

He wants us to believe His Word – to believe Him! - and He will enable us to do just that in our moments of unbelief...
all we have to do is ask Him to increase our belief and choose to do just that –
no matter the resistance we might get from others
and / or from the deceiver.

At the end of our lesson we were led to this Scripture:

One thing God has spoken,
Two things have I heard:
that you, O God, are strong,
and that you, O God, are loving.
Psalm 62:11-12

This scripture spoke to my heart!

Dear friends, I pray you will know these words to be the truth in your life!
I pray you will KNOW and BELIEVE that our God is a mighty God – He is strong!
That our God is loving! – that He loves you!

Add this verse to your memory bank so you can haul it out
when you most need His strength and His love.
Never stop believing Him!
Make it your lifestyle!
Thank Him for loving you and desiring for you to know and believe Him!

Verily, Verily #2

Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me,
hath everlasting life,
and shall not come into condemnation;
but is passed from death unto life.
John 5:24 (KJV)

“I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me
has eternal life and will not be condemned;
he has crossed over from death to life.
John 5:24 (NIV)

Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him
who sent Me has everlasting life,
and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
John 5:24 (NKJV)

In this above passage Jesus is telling His followers that if they believe what He says and believe that God the Father sent Him,
they will have eternal life –
they will not have to face the judgment to decide their eternal destiny for they have already been given ETERNAL LIFE!!!
Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
Hallelujah!

Know this to be truth, dear friends!
If anyone of you does not know this as truth for your lives, please find someone you can talk to who can show you this truth!
Who can share the Good News with you!
Who can lead you to our Savior –
so your destiny also will be ETERNALL LIFE not DEATH!

Father God,
Speak to hearts today, I pray.
Show yourself to the hurting, to the lost, to the betrayed, to the lonely;
To those who once were close to you but have now wandered away from you;
To those who are seeking you right now and aren’t really sure
who or what it is they are seeking!
Be so REAL to us, LORD, that we KNOW You are all we need!
Give us Your heart for people;
Your eyes; Your love;
May everything we do bring glory to Your name!

The RED Light!

Have you ever gone thru a red light?
Well! I did!
On my way to church yesterday morning!
Go figure!
(I’m writing this on January 19, 2009 – Monday)

I was half-way thru the intersection when I realized what I was doing... thankfully there was no one else around...
By that I don’t mean any RCMP – I mean any cars I could have run into!
Phew!!!!!
If the RCMP had been around – I would have had to take the “punishment” – I DID do it!
No one else but me behind the wheel!
I was totally distracted – I saw the red light; I stopped; looked to my left and to my right; no vehicles in sight so just drove on thru! What was with that?????
Immediately I realized what I had done...but there was no turning back!
The crime had been committed!

Has something like this ever happened to you in other areas of your life?
It sure has to me!
God sends a “Red Light” our way to let us know when we are dangerously close to taking the wrong road in life; when we’re close to exhibiting an attitude or behavior that does not glorify him; when we are close to allowing temptation to go beyond the “no turning back” point!
when we need to STOP - and take note of exactly where we are and what we are doing!

I call that “Red Light” the prompting of the Holy Spirit...
That inner sense that makes one know that they are not where they should be; Some might call it our conscience; others a “gut feeling”; It is the Holy Spirit prompting us to do what is right; to stay focused on God’s plan and purpose for our lives.

How like the distracted driver we are at times –
Plowing right on thru the intersection; taking the wrong road; choosing the wrong attitude; acting with that unrighteous behavior; giving in to the temptation; going beyond the “point of no return”!

Just as the lights at an intersection are there for our protection, so is the prompting of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells the one who has been born again. We are no longer left to our own devices – or should I say “vices” –
The Holy Spirit will prompt and prod us into making the right decisions...
When we ignore his promptings we are “running the red light”!

I am so thankful for the Spirit’s presence in my life.
The more time I spend in the Word and in prayer, the more open I am to hearing from him.
I pray this for you today –
If you have been “running red lights” recently; blocking out the promptings; grieving the Spirit;
I pray you will open yourself to our gracious, merciful Father who will forgive and renew you – let Him do a work in you today!

Reflect on these verses:

Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own;
1 Corinthians 6:19

Guard the good deposit that was entrusted to you – guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
2 Timothy 1:14

Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
Romans 5:5

But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.
He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.

Thankful Tuesday

Word focus: “give thanks”

In Hebrew there is no verb that means “to thank” in the way that we, using the English language, use it.
The Hebrew words used in this way mean to “make public acknowledgement of” and “outstretched hands towards God”.

When I think of “giving thanks” I think of acknowledging God and all His attributes,
and giving a testimony of what He has done for me and in me!

And I cannot do this without raising my hands to HIM!
Even though we’ve had some tough times around this household lately, I KNOW He is in control...He knows all...He sees our hearts and He knows our desires...
I give Him Thanks!
For His Mercy, His Grace, His Love, His Joy, His Peace,
His Comfort, His Strength...

I pray you can say the same!

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
For the help of His countenance.
Psalm 42:5

I will praise the LORD according to His righteousness,
And will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
Psalm 7:17

If Only ....

If my people,
who are called by my name,
will humble themselves
and pray and seek my face
and turn from their wicked ways,
then I will hear from heaven
and will forgive their sin
and will heal their land.

FOOD!

You’re probably thinking....where is she going from here?
I was thinking this morning about my eating habits... as I do quite often! I go through times of eating very healthily and then – I get swayed (by my own self, because no one else is responsible for it!) into the “quick and easy” mode; or the “junk” mode; or the “well, what does it matter anyway” mode; or “everyone else can eat that so why can’t I” mode; or “the family is home so we have to eat well!” mode; or “it’s __________ (you name the event or holiday) and, well I can’t diet now!” mode.
I’ve met with every one of these at some point in time!
Do you see yourself in any of these modes?
I hope I’m not the only one who’s ever been there!

As a lot of you are aware, hubby raises free-range poultry and eggs, and grass-fed cattle. He has an abattoir (fancy name for slaughter facility) - provincially inspected – where he processes the poultry.
Over the past few years I have become accustomed to eating free-range poultry and find it difficult to eat the “other stuff”. Why am I telling you all this?
Please bear with me!

I am involved with hubby in the Farmer’s Market movement in our community – and I help him in the “shop” aspect of the abattoir –
Currently, I sit on a committee through the Dept. of Public Health that is looking at reaching the community to make us all more aware of our Food Systems.
Just yesterday I began to read a book entitled ...
“IN DEFENSE OF FOOD” by Michael Pollan.

The first sentence in the book is this –
“Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.”
Uhmmmmmmmm.
Makes sense to me – how about you?
Immediately I thought about God’s instructions re. food in His Word.
He gave many directions, laws, etc. re. food and what was allowable and what wasn’t....
I will give just a few of the Scriptures...
Genesis 1:29-30
Leviticus 11
Deuteronomy 14:1-21

Even more than the foods we feed our physical bodies I reflected on our Spiritual food.
Do you feast on His Word?
Do you deny yourself that fat-filled dessert and fill up on Praise and Worship music?
When you are anxious do you reach for that bag of Ruffles or do you fall to your knees and seek Him in prayer?
When “life” doesn’t go as you have planned do you call a friend to go to lunch or do you call a friend for a “heart-to-heart”?
When it seems like there’s a “test” everyday – what do you feed yourself with?
Physical food or Spiritual food?

I’m the last person to talk to you about a physical diet – I have not succeeded in reaching a healthy state for a long time... however, I continue to work on it!
I refuse to give up and let it all go!
I won’t give the enemy the satisfaction of saying,
“See? I told you you couldn’t do it.”
I am trying to make simple adjustments in my food intake, and to increase my exercise...

I pray that you will consider both your physical and spiritual diets... God wants us to be healthy in all aspects of our lives.
We can’t be and do for Him if we’re physically unhealthy and spiritually healthy...
(is that state possible?)
Nor can we, if we are physically healthy and spiritually unhealthy.
(this state is possible)

I hope I have raised more questions for you today than anything else!
Consider your health – physical and spiritual!
Do an honest evaluation of both ... Then choose to allow Him to change you!
Wherever those changes need to occur!
You are a precious child of the King and He wants nothing but the best for you!

Philippians 4:13 – I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

The ‘BLAME GAME’

Have you ever played the “blame game”?
No!
This is not a board game or a card game – it is a “game” that we humans
have been participating in since the beginning of time!

Since when? ... you ask.

Genesis 3:12
The man said, “The woman you put here with me –
she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

Genesis 3:13
The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Since time began men and women have been blaming someone else for their failings.
Read these 2 verses again –
Do you see the blame?
Do you also see the action?
They both ATE of the fruit – knowing that God had told them not to.
When God asked them if they had eaten from the tree that He commanded them not to eat from ( See verse 11) –
they both replied by admitting they had, but blaming the someone else for their action.

Wow!
Have you ever done this?
· He/she made me do it!
· The devil made me do it!
· Well, you’re always ......... so I ......... (you fill in the blanks)
· I can’t help it; it’s in my genes.
· I’m this way because that’s the way my parents were.
· Sorry, that’s just the way I am.
· I didn’t/don’t have any choice in the matter.
And on and on the excuses go...

[I just thought of this – over the past 7 months I’ve made many phone calls regarding our cell phones ... one time I was told that “the system” was responsible
for what had occurred!
I said, “The system? The system is only as good as the information that gets put into it ...and that is done by a human.”
No one wanted to take responsibility for anything!]

OK – enough about the cell!

Oh friends, I know we all do this –
play the blame game –
from time to time –
As we grow and mature in our faith I also know that God
enables us to take responsibility,
He gives us His grace to apologize, to accept the discipline required,
to be accountable ...

No one is ever “blameless”... we contribute many things to all of our relationships.
No one is ever “all to blame” for the breakdown of a relationship.

Please know this...
It is so important for us to evaluate our relationships –
And to be who and what God has called us to be in each one:
· Forgive 70 X 7
· Quick to listen
· Slow to speak
· Slow to become angry or take offense
· Never let the sun go down on our anger
· Not be rude, or proud, or boastful
· Keep no record of wrongs
· Encourage, praise, and love others
· Hold each other accountable
· Set healthy boundaries

Dear one,I pray that you will think of your relationships right now.
If there is someone you are blaming for something that is going on in your life –
take that blame away from them, and look at your part in what is happening.
Forgive them for not being perfect; forgive them for the hurt they’ve caused;
let them off the hook and give them to God!
Remember – when you point a finger at someone else there are 3 pointing back at you!
Begin to set some healthy boundaries for yourself – this is OK! This is good!
God has boundaries – we need to as well!
God calls you to be accountable for yourself –
He will search you and let you know what needs to be done in you –
to bring you closer to His ideal for you!
I thank Him for that!
Also, know this – you can’t go back and change your upbringing –
or things that have happened in the past –
BUT
you can make a choice – today –
to change those things that need changing!

Philippians 3:16 – I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me! (NKJ)
He will empower you, enable you ...
and give you victory!

Verily! Verily! #1

The word “verily” means truthfully, with confidence, most assuredly.
I was brought up in a Baptist Church where the King James Version of the Bible was the only version used. The older I get the more I am aware of this - the reason being that the Scriptures that are in my memory from long ago are from the KJV.
I have a Parallel Bible – 2 columns on each page – 2 versions in one:
King James Version and New International Version.
It’s neat to be able to compare the two right at my fingertips.

When I began this morning thinking about truth – for Thursdays writing – the word “verily” came to me!

I am going to give you 3 different translations of one Scripture – the meaning is the same even though the word for “truth” is different.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee.
Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

How Great Thou Art!

He is amazing!
The other morning I awoke with the song “How Great Thou Art” running through my head! I had been in the car the day before, listening to my iPod... I have this song on the iPod in a couple different versions! This set the tone for my day!
I gave thanks immediately for His awesomeness, His presence, His love, His peace, His joy... in the midst of everything else.

On this Tuesday morning, I pray you will make note of all the things you have to be thankful for! I also read these words that same morning ... don’t remember where – but the words have stuck with me!

“There is always, always, always something to be thankful for!” May this be your inspiration for today!

Father,
give us grateful hearts in all circumstances.
May we see your hand in everything that happens with us, to us, around us.
May we never falter from the realization that you are a great and mighty God!
Thank You, Lord.

OFFENSE vs GRACE

To “take offense” means to experience a feeling of resentment or anger.
Have you ever taken offense at something?
words spoken to you or an action towards you?
Well, I know I certainly have.
Just recently someone (not hubby!) said something to me that really threw me for a loop –
shocked me and cut at my soul like a knife!
I was Devastated! Hurt! Angry!

I responded to the words with shock; I know my voice raised a few octaves; and of course, in my “pain” I cried! I was hurt! This person whom I thought cared about me – hurt me!
For a few moments it was all about me!
Ever been there?

In the past I would have taken these words and let them dictate to my heart a sense of identity.
Not anymore!
I would have dwelt on them and doubted myself; doubted God.

I am so thankful that God spoke to me very soon afterwards... I had just left a church service where the Pastor had spoken to us about our hearts.
He used 1 Samuel 16:7 as his main reference for his morning message.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height,
for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.
Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

At the end of the message he asked us to write down a resolution regarding what we were going to do about our hearts this year!
Here is what I wrote:

“I will make Psalm 139: 23-24 my daily prayer AND I will take time to listen
for HIS voice speaking to me.”

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24

Within minutes of this situation occurring I could hear God speaking to my heart:
· Dear one, I’m speaking to you – please listen to me.
· Are you going to be angry or will you extend grace to this one?
· You know you have to forgive her, how long will you take to do that?
· To remain offended is a choice!
· To forgive her is a choice.
· Which will you choose?
· Remember – “hurting people hurt people.”
· Remember – “You are who I say you are!”

Thankfully – I was alone at home that afternoon – I spent the next 2 hours crying out to God, pouring my heart out to Him, telling Satan to get away from me (he was not going to have me this time - or any time!);
evaluating my responsibility in this situation;
asking God to fill me with His forgiveness, to give me forgiveness in my heart even though I still felt the pain of the words.

I KNEW I could not do the things I do for HIM; or be the woman He’s called me to be if I held on to resentment, bitterness and anger;
or if I did not acknowledge my part in all this!

Hallelujah!
Praise God!
Over the next 24 hours God worked a healing in my heart!
I Praise HIM for His GRACE....
Unmerited favor –
To me and to the other person –
He sees us both the same!
His Word about her identity applies to her as much as it does me!
Praise You, LORD!
I so desire to see her with His eyes!

And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and in discernment,
that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ ...

Dear Friends,
We are called to not give offense to others; to be wise and discerning;
to be sincere and without offense.... to forgive – to take on the attitude of Christ!
May you choose to live this way – to please our Lord – if you’re finding it hard He will give you the grace and the strength required to be like Him.
Thank you, Jesus!

Father God,
Help us to be people who are instruments of Your love and grace – not tools of the devil!
May we look at people and try to see the reason behind the behaviour – may we be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry.
Father, give us Your eyes!

Iron Deficiency

In the late summer of 2008 I was diagnosed with Iron and B12 deficiencies!
For months I had been feeling very tired, napping in the afternoon - (that’s just not me!) -
had no energy, lots of aches and pains etc, etc. I kept thinking this would pass – I didn’t look after myself as I should have... Finally I went to the doctor and... Am now on medication to correct both of these issues!

I began to think about how we (I) get Spiritually depleted or deficient!
We put others needs and other things before our relationship with God... And our relationship with HIM gets neglected.
When this happens we become deficient in all the Spiritual nutrients we require to stay strong and firm in our walk!

We KNOW we should be reading the Word, Praying, having Quiet Times, Listening for His voice – but for some reason we always seem to put everything else first.
Then we wonder why our lives are not what they could be; why we feel empty, why we have no energy to go on another day!

I frequently counsel with Christians who are having relationship difficulties; feeling drained of all energy; have a “negative” outlook on life; describe themselves as being cranky, critical, impatient... and so on.

One question I always ask, in one way or another, is about their Spiritual Life!
Invariably they will tell me, “Well, I know I should be reading the Bible but I don’t have time in the morning and I’m too tired at night.”
Or –
“My prayer life is not what it should be. I don’t have time to spend long periods of time in prayer so I don’t do it at all, or I just send up SOS prayers.”
Or –
“Are you kidding? Quiet time? I have children, a job, a husband, housework...”

Do you see yourself, either in the past or right now, in these scenarios?
I have been there, believe me!
However, I have learned that unless I spend time with HIM,
I am no good to myself or anyone else!
I remember reading a book a long time ago entitled “Too Busy NOT To Pray”...
I believe that if that philosophy became our way of life we’d be much healthier spiritually!

I book all sorts of appointments: lunches with friends, counseling sessions, Stampin’ Up! Events, Bible Studies, hair appointment, and so on.... But do I book time with God?

When I ask people that question they often respond with “Well, I shouldn’t have to do that. It should be a given and it should just happen.”
There’s that word ‘should’ - :(

Well, friends – for most of us that is not the way it works... we have to take charge and plan specific times alone with God! We need a regular place where that occurs. When Hubby and I were first married we lived in a house that had a medium sized closet off the family room that was just a ‘catch-all’ for everything. We de-cluttered it, put a small desk in it, and it became his ‘prayer closet’ where he spent time everyday!

God never gets weary; He’s always present; He will enable us to do what we need to do; and when we rest in Him we will be able to stand strong!

Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
And his understanding no one can fathom.
He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Oh, To Have HIS Eyes!

I have been very blessed over the last couple months to have a
Christian Music Station available thru our satellite service.
It’s been there all along – I just didn’t know it!
‘Til some friends told me where to find it!
DAH!

I turn it on almost every morning and saturate myself with
Praise and Worship music!
I now have a NEW favorite song! J

It is called “Give Me Your Eyes” by Branden Heath....
The tune is very catchy but the words say it all!
I will not quote it exactly but here is the gist of the words –

“Give me your eyes for just one second so I can see everything I keep missing;
Give me Your love for humanity;
Give me Your arms for the broken–hearted;
Give me Your heart for the forgotten;
Why have I never cared?
Give me a second glance to see people the way You see them.”

WOW!
Do these words speak to your heart?
They sure did to mine!

This morning I awoke with this tune and the words running thru my head!
As we enter a New Year I am praying for a fresh anointing upon me
of God’s Eyes,
of His Heart, His Love, His Arms ...
I’m asking Him to show me the ones He wants to minister to;
To move “me” out of the way and to use me for His Work!

Dear Friends,
May this be our prayer for 2009 -
We live in a “crazy world” –
[That’s my terminology for all that is going on around us!]
And I believe it is only going to get “crazier” before Christ returns!
In the meantime we are called to be HIS disciples, HIS ambassadors,
HIS workers here –

I KNOW we need to see the world thru HIS Eyes!
So I pray today for just that!

Father God,
We love you, Lord.
Father, give us a burden for people – a burden that overshadows anything we may have had before.
Enable us, Lord, to see people thru your eyes.
Fill our hearts with compassion and concern,
not just for physical needs but, most of all Lord, for Spiritual needs.
Give us boldness, Lord, to speak of You, to give our testimony,
to proclaim Your glory .
Father, I pray that we, your people,
be the Aroma of Christ wherever we may be;
be the Light in the darkness;
be a Seed-planter and a Harvester in this world!
I am reminded of 2 Chronicles 7:14 which says,
“If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven
and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
Oh, Lord, hear this prayer of your humble servant; cleanse my heart oh, God –
Fill me with Your Spirit that I might be and do all You would have me be and do!
You are Worthy of Praise and I give You that today!
Thank You Father, for hearing my plea!
Be with everyone reading this!
Stir their hearts to first, hear from You;
and second - to respond to you!
Thank You, Lord, for what You are going to do in our lives – in our world –
this New Year!
I give it all to You, with a grateful heart –

Everything Has Its Time!

To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Check out verses 1-15 of Ecclesiastes chapter 3 –
A beautiful poem regarding how life and time are in the hands of our awesome Creator – Father God!
[we’ll discuss this at a later time]

I am here this morning to tell you about an event that occurred on Christmas Eve 2008 – one that has left me with pain in my heart!
To some it may even seem a “little silly” ... and there probably was a time in my life where I too, would have thought just that...
however –

I’ll back-track a little:
In 1996 we acquired a little Yorkie pup and named him Benson; a year later we acquired his half-sister and named her Sophie. Right from the get-go it was evident which one was the “boss”... Sophie took over as soon as she came in the house! And it was also very evident which “master” each dog preferred! Benson was “mine” and Sophie was “hubby’s”. I could tell you many tales about living with 2 dogs – albeit small ones. Only another “small dog lover” would appreciate these tales so I won’t bore you with them...

We lost Sophie during July 2008... she got sick – with liver disease – and after two days at the Vets we made the decision to euthanize her. That was so hard to do, and we have mourned her loss.
Hubby used to “cuddle” with her every night... She would let me know that she didn’t approve of me showing him affection by barking at me if I were to hug him!

As most of you are aware, the Christmas week threw everyone ‘for a loop’ because of the power being off so long!
I’m sure we all have stories of what that did to our “self-made plans”! I know God didn’t cause the power to be off – and, for the most part, I had a sense of peace as I was fully aware that HE was in control of all time - any “ranting and raving” and “discouragement” would be for naught!
So, I prayed a lot and I settled into Him, rebuked the devil, and did my best to live out Philippians 4:8...

I remember telling someone on Christmas Eve morning that I had just had a little “hissy fit” – ever have one of those? I just couldn’t believe the power had gone off - AGAIN! that the house would get cold ‘til we hooked up the generator – again! (we’d already unhooked it from both the shop and the house); and who knew if we’d be able to have a “hot” lunch rather than a sandwich! I soon told the old devil to “take a hike” – he wasn’t having me or this day! I settled in to selling turkeys in the shop, a sandwich for lunch, and had a good day! As it turned out, the power was off for most of the day! - coming on around 4 p.m.

Eventually, we settled in to the evening ... both of us exhausted – and went to bed at 9 p.m.
Around 10 p.m. the power flickered, the wind was blowing hard, the smoke detectors were beeping, and Benson started to bark!
I got up and let him out of his “room” (kennel) – and, as usual, he headed for the patio door to go out and do his duty! He didn’t come back quickly, so I put on my raincoat and went
outside to look for him - I couldn’t find him. I returned inside, went to the back door,
was calling for him when a van slowly drove by, turned around, and stopped by our driveway.
A lady got out, and in her arms she was carrying “my boy”...
she was crying and so was I ...
he had run into the road and she had hit him!
I believe he must have been disoriented and run towards the road instead of towards the house ... He was gone!

I can’t describe the pain that hit my heart! I tried to tell her not to worry – it wasn’t her fault!
And all I could think was, “Oh No! He’s gone! What’ll I do without him?” Hubby was still asleep – oblivious to anything that had happened! I hollered for him and he came to my rescue, taking Benson out of the house.
I cried and cried and cried. It was difficult to return to bed, knowing that he would not be there in the morning.

How quickly life can change for us!
Not only had we had to deal with the power issues; water issues; turkey issues; now we had to deal with the loss of a “part of our family”!
I wish I knew who the gal was in the van... I think I would recognize her again - I hope I will!
I pray that God will allow me to see her again! I want to thank her for not leaving Benson in the road; for trying to find his owners; for her tears of sympathy with me.
As simple as this is – I KNOW it is God’s grace... Caring about her; wanting to make her feel better about what occurred; wanting to ease her pain.
God’s Grace!

I am so grateful that in my pain I am able to think of others;
I do not say that boastfully - Praise be to our marvellous God – who fills me with His love and His grace.

Yes – I have lost what some call “man’s best friend” – I recall a time when I didn’t understand the love one has for a dog! But I do now...

My capacity to ‘LOVE’ has increased 100-fold over the past few years... Not because of Benson – Because of GOD!
HALLELUJAH!!!
To love the unlovely; to love without wanting anything in return; to want people to know God’s love for them! All because of His GRACE!

Thank You, Lord,
For Your grace – Your favor – to the undeserving! To me!
Thank You, Father, For giving the one resting in You the capacity to love as You love;
To see others thru Your eyes.

Dear friends,
I do not write this to get sympathy from anyone...
I write this, hoping that someone who reads it will want to experience His Grace in a deeper way than ever before –
Maybe because they never have experienced it before; or maybe because they have limited God in their life and they want the limits to be gone! Maybe they are tired of “being in control” of everything and it’s time to let go, and to let God have His way in their life! I don’t know the reason for sure, but HE does!

Whatever the case, please KNOW that HE is just waiting to shower you with His Grace – His Favor! His Love!

Dear loved one,
Please let Him touch your life with His Hand of Grace!

Happy New Year!

It’s a NEW YEAR!
2009!
What does this mean for you?
A new year to .......
What are some of the resolutions you make?
Do you make the same one every year and give it up soon after?
[like losing 20 pounds?]
I have done that in the past!

A long time ago I decided to make my resolution(s)
things that were going to be energizing, rewarding, positive and fun-filled!

· One year I resolved to learn to quilt... and I did –
I made a kitchen table topper ...cut and quilted by me!
[I have another quilt that I’ve not completed –
but some day I will finish it!]

· Another year I resolved to learn to crochet – I wanted a tablecloth for a small round table I have... well, I did achieve this to some degree...
I made the tablecloth ...and still use it!
But didn’t find this to be as much fun as I had anticipated,
so have given up crocheting!

· Last year I resolved to live out this Scripture -
Philippians 4:8...
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.

I must say this has been a challenge but God has done amazing things
in me this past year!
I have been so much more aware of my thought life – and we know that as a man thinketh in his heart so is he (Proverbs);
I have been much more focused on Him and His hand in
everything in my life – our lives...
I have been much more thankful, worshipful,
learning to be content in everything!

Just because I made a conscious choice to live – think about –
those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable,
excellent, and praiseworthy!

Give it a try!
It works!
He changes us when we chose to live as He wants us to!

I also resolved last year to have a “blog” by the end of the year –
I didn’t even know what this meant for sure,
but was going to use the Internet somehow,
to minister to people and to share my love of paper crafting.

As the year progressed I really felt God saying to me to make this a ministry tool specifically!
He is so amazing!
By July I had a site, a domain name, and some things to share!
Awesome!
I give HIM all the glory!

One of my friends said, “Well, after 365 you’ll have a book!”

HUMMMMMMMMMM!
Maybe that will be next year’s resolution!

This year’s resolution (2009) is to memorize Scripture...
My goal is for one per month...
And I am specifically saying one per month as this is achievable for me....if I were to say one per week I see myself quickly failing at that
and giving up!
But if I get more than one per month – Praise be to God!

My first one will be from Zephaniah –

The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17

Praise the Lord!
I’ll keep you informed as to my progress and what verses I’m choosing!
