FORGIVING OURSELVES

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is His love for those who fear Him;
As far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:11-12

A year or so ago someone asked me how one forgives themselves.
They said they knew that God had forgiven them but they couldn’t forgive themselves.
They had been in a cycle of sin, had broken the cycle, God had forgiven them,
but they were holding onto guilt.

They could not disconnect from the behaviour emotionally or mentally,
and the guilt and self-condemnation were robbing them of their joy and contentment.

I asked them if they thought they were better than God and they were shocked –
“Why, what do you mean?”
My answer was, “Well, if God has forgiven you because of the blood of Christ,
what will it take for you to forgive yourself?
Is His blood not sufficient for you?
Is your standard for yourself higher than God’s?”

God does not keep a record of our sins as we’ve already read in Psalm 103.

Jeremiah 31:34 states “For I will forgive their wickedness and
will remember their sins no more.”

If He doesn’t keep a record when He forgives – why should we?
The only thing that has to be done is to receive His forgiveness and mercy,
and choose to believe that He paid it all.

We can more easily forgive others than we can ourselves.
Not forgiving oneself is a form of pride –
It is setting a higher standard for ourselves than for others.

Uhmmm - Had you thought of that before?

Forgiving oneself is not about forgetting –
it is about letting go of what you’re holding against yourself
so you can move on with God.

Don’t wait any longer – throw down the guilt and the pride and forgive yourself.
IT IS A CHOICE!
not a feeling –
the guilt, the condemnation, and the pride are tools of Satan to keep you stuck!
Life is full of choices – every choice we make will either take us in a
positive, life-changing direction
OR
it will rob us of all of that.

It takes courage and strength to forgive – others and ourselves –
We need to call on Him for that courage and strength – and He will provide.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
Philippians 4:13

Change your thinking from condemnation and guilt to
those things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable,
excellent, and praiseworthy
Philippians 4:8

And remember – There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1-2)

Believe this today!

May you “Live freely in Him today”!

Resting in HIM,
Ruthie
